Cloning

Moving from an HDD (High Density Disk aka a hard drive) to an SSD (Solid State Drive) can significantly enhance your computer's performance. Let's explore the benefits and considerations:

Speed: SSDs are lightning-fast compared to traditional HDDs. They offer quicker boot times, faster application launches and smoother overall system performance.
Lightweight Design: SSDs weigh less than a standard HDD. If you're schlepping your laptop through airports you'd appreciate a reduction of a few ounces.
Durability: A drop or sharp knock will often not kill an SSD like an HDD. There are no moving parts in an SSD.

Cloning Your Drive

If your old hard drive is still functional cloning it to the new SSD is an excellent option. Cloning ensures that all your files, settings and programs transfer seamlessly. It's accurate and saves you the hassle of reinstalling everything from scratch. If your computer can't detect the drive it probably died.

Compatibility

Cloning works for both PCs and Macs. Please note that older Macs (over 7 years old) won't support the latest macOS versions. In such cases we use Time Machine to migrate files, programs and settings.

Signs of a Failing Hard Drive

Slow performance: Bad hardware can significantly impact your computer's speed.
Malware: Malicious software can also slow down your system.

If your computer remains sluggish after scanning for malware a bad hard drive may be the culprit.

SSD Sizes

We stock various SSD sizes for quick turnaround. You can also provide your own SSD. Remember to back up your data before any drive migration and enjoy the speed boost with your new SSD. You can look at our recommended products to find a good internal or external drive.

SSDs are great but they do tend to fail hard. It's recommended you make continuous backups. You need a dedicated external drive to take advantage of either of these methods.
